popup open water swims
Coaching and Training is offered by two independent coaches, Marianne and Tom. They are both awesome and compliment each other very well.
HERE THEY ARE:
MARIANNE is an experienced open water swimmer, having competed for 15 years in a range of river and lake swims, including the 14k Thames Marathon in 2018.
She is a Level 2 STA Open Water Coach and runs small group sessions (up to 6 swimmers) for Introductory and Intermediate/Advanced level Open Water skills. She also works with complete beginners to advanced swimmers on a 1-2-1 basis at the reservoir and uses video analysis (above water) to give feedback on their technique.
Having the BTF Level 1 Triathlon Coach qualification also means she can work on transition practice with triathletes.
Marianne is also a full time Advanced swim Mastery Coach and works in a private pool with video analysis on Ashdown Forest to help swimmers save energy and swim further and faster with more ease. She often works with swimmers on their swim technique in the pool first, then works on open water skills at the Reservoir prior to events or just so people can enjoy swimming outdoors in the summer.
In 2006 Marianne started open water swimming with no formal training or coaching and was not a competitive swimmer as a youngster. Like many others, she therefore entered the world of open water swimming with no formal knowledge of:
- efficient swimming technique
- specific open water swimming skills, (i.e. acclimatising to the cold, sighting, turning at buoys, drafting, etc.),
- essential open water equipment (i.e. wetsuits, open water goggles, anti-chaffing cream, etc).
Many years on, Marianne now has the knowledge, experience and passion to help swimmers of all levels improve their technique in the pool and equip them with essential open water skills and advise on the equipment needed, either on a 1-2-1 or group basis.
If you are interested in joining a coached group or 1-2-1 session at the reservoir or just working on your technique in the pool, please contact Marianne:
During Lockdown, Marianne trained as an Oxygen Advantage Instructor to help Athletes optimise their functional breathing for better health and sports performance. Breathing is usually a big issue for swimmers, so Marianne can now help swimmers learn how to breathe efficiently in and out of the water.
TOM has been involved in triathlon and related multisports for over five years and is a British Triathlon Federation Level 2 coach.
His sessions are focused on helping people to explore and develop their abilities. Open water sessions will include group and race-specific skills such as drafting, sighting and mass starts, as well as triathlon-specific elements including race tactics and transitions.
It doesn’t matter whether you are training for your first triathlon, to get fitter, to push for a new personal best, or if you are looking for a fun and sociable way to spend an evening: please get in touch and he can discuss the next step on your triathlon and multisport adventure.
Tom will be at Weirwood on Thursday evenings, running two sessions (from 6:30pm to 7:15pm, and 7:30pm to 8:15pm). Sessions are for groups of three to fourteen swimmers, and can be booked in advance by emailing him. Please let him know at least one day in advance. Alternatively, you can drop in for one of the sessions as there may be spaces available. Sessions cost £10 if booked in advance, and £15 for a drop-in.
